“I have been in Ruaraka women for more than 10yrs now.Since I joined this group I have learnt alot from the trainings conducted severally and also the group itself through the savings which makes me earn good dividends. Through this I get motivated into saving more more. Also with the interest rate being very low when you take loan ,it makes feel encouraged to acquire loan as am assured I will manage to pay.Being in Ruaraka has also given me a chance of being one of the management members.”

“Empowerment, Growth, and Sisterhood Imagine a place where women come together not just to save money but to save dreams. A place where affordable loans turn into thriving businesses, where surpluses become opportunities, and where every member is a pillar of strength for another. For the past 10 years, Ruaraka women’s self-group has been that place for me—a lifeline, a launchpad, and a family.
For six of those years, I had the honor of serving on the management committee, a role that allowed me to contribute to the growth and success of this amazing community. Working alongside such inspiring women, I witnessed firsthand the transformative power of collective effort. Together, we created a safe space where women could thrive, learn, and support one another, breaking barriers and challenging societal norms.
This group has not only empowered me financially but also personally. It has given me the confidence to dream bigger, the courage to take risks, and the joy of seeing other women grow alongside me. To every woman out there considering joining, I say this: this is more than a group—it’s a movement. A movement that celebrates your strength, amplifies your voice, and helps you unlock your full potential.
I am forever grateful for this journey and proud to be part of a community that truly believes in the power of women supporting women.”

I joined the group im the year 2004. I had many reaaons for joining but Some of the most compelling ones were: Trust; the catholic faith, being a CWA member played a role in that too and the fact that group leaders were elected from parishes and outstations. Money Security; the safety of money was key since it was overlooked by Caritas under the archdiosese of Nairobi and the parish priest and Bishop were caretakers. Location; the self help group is within the proximity of my residence and therefore easily accessible, communication is top notch, with the accountant’s availability and the office is open. Education and Capacity building; I learnt about the culture of savings, budgeting, how to manage debts, records invest for the future, strategic planning and how to manage my finances and women empowerment among many many others.
Some of the benefits of joining RWSHG i would say are such like having learnt the culture of saving and minimized wastage – any coin matters in my day to day spending.
I have taken loans for development and payed school fees for my children while repaying promptly. The interest rate being 1% attracted me because it made it possible for me to balance my finances and cater for other needs.
Through this channel for women empowerment I was able to purchase a plot and construct some rentals all from getting a loan.
During the educational capacity building days the facilitators have taught us leadership and management skills even at family level. I’ve acquired skills in home management, house keeping and keep my family happy.
RWSHG has taught me good moral values, the fear of God and to be a wise woman. Because of these, I have even introduced my daughter and many other women to the group.
At the end of all this, I greatly enjoy the surplus given at end year.
