Empowering Communities Through Financial Inclusion
Our Story
Background Information & Bio
Queen of apostles Ruaraka women self help group started way back in the year 1995 by the then parish priest the late Rev.Fr.David Njuguna together with the then CWA officials Ann Macharia-chair lady, the late Mary Gitari-secretary and the late Teresiah Wairagu-treasurer and is located along Thika Road in queen of Apostles Ruaraka church compound opposite
safari park hotel next to Uhai Neema hospital
The priest, having realized how the Christians were undergoing several challenges and frequently seeking help from the parish, engaged the then CWA officials to bring women together and start the self-help group with the aim of empowering them economically and socially in order to be self-reliant through saving and borrowing of loans at an affordable interest rate of 1% per month on reducing balance to uplift their lives through starting small businesses, thus improving the lives of their families.
The group started with a membership of 50 members with a minimum contribution of Ksh. 20 saving per month. The group did not have an office, and members used to meet under a tree for collection day every second Sunday of every month, where cash collected was being given back to members as a table banking loan. In the year 2013, they acquired their office in the church compound. The group opened an account with Barclays Bank, currently known as ABSA. The group holds two bank accounts (Absa and Caritas microfinance bank) and an M-Pesa paybill account.
The group automated its operation from manual since 2014. Q.O.A.C.C. Ruaraka women SHG operates under the Archdiocese of Nairobi social promotion registered trustee, under the guideline of Caritas Nairobi.
The group has seen a tremendous growth in membership and share since its incorporation 27 years ago, in addition to continuous empowerment to the community. This has been and will continually be our objective now and in the future.
We thank the Almighty God for his divine favors bestowed on us.
